I’m proud to open the doors of our new health center

In a couple weeks, we’ll be serving clients in our brand new health center in Lufkin, Texas. I’m the health center director, and I have to say that when we started the project, I was a little anxious. We're a small community and this was a big campaign. And our sister affiliate in Austin, like the Aurora affiliate more recently, had experienced protests and boycott threats during their health center construction. But I shouldn’t have worried. The support for Planned Parenthood in our community was overwhelming and construction proceeded as planned. Just the other night, I looked around the room as we celebrated at a big reception with our supporters. I saw the mayor of Lufkin, the chamber president, our architects and our contractors all there to raise a glass for Planned Parenthood. It was a proud moment for me. But the moment I’m really waiting for will come in a couple weeks when I see our first client walk through our doors.

Protesters: 0 (!)

I am Emily X.

I am Planned Parenthood.

The Lufkin Planned Parenthood is MY PP! I've been reading your blog but didn't realize you were right around the corner. I've written quite a few letters to the editor in support of the new clinic. Can't wait to check it out!

Thanks for all you do!

I am starting my escort training next week, and I was beginning to have second thoughts, maybe I don't really have the time, etc. Thank you for your courage, your commitment and your strength. I can't wait to get started now, no matter how busy our lives are, we need to find the time to protect our rights to privacy, quality health care and reproductive freedom! Thank you and keep up the fabulous work!

Proud of Planned Parenthood and everyone who supports them!!!!! I'm not from Texas, I'm reading this here in Montana and I'm really sad that where I live there are no clinics near where I live, I wish there were so I could volunteer on a regular basis. =( The nearest clinic is either a one 1/2 or two hour drive away but I'm still glad there are many clinics in this state for women, especially out in the smaller communities. I hope everyone keeps up the great work, I'm proud to SUPPORT PLANNED PARENTHOOD!

As a rational man, I commend your efforts. It's fun to tell people I am PERSONALLY pro-life, but the woman's rights in all cases trump my own. And I an glad there is a safe, clean, and caring place to be there for women (and men). I salute you all. Keep up the good work!

there were 132 zealots at our free standing women's clinic yesterday. there were 18 of us volunteers who outnumbered them all in decency & respect for women. 4 out of state priests were illegally blaring over a loud speaker to this crowd blocking our street for nearly 3 hours .... people need to help Planned Parenthood & genuine clinics across the nation to repel this assault of zealots & theocrats against private women's right to make their own choices regarding their medical care.... less than two dozen women had to pass by this bizarre group of zealots yesterday.... Keep up the good work across the globe PP! Some day these extremists will apologize for their biblioterroristic activities. For now we must grin & bear it & stand firm.

You all have my deepest respect to stand up against these mindless, bigoted zealots, and even terrorist that attack our rights and try to impose their irrational beliefs on all of us! Keep up the good work! Never let anyone stop you from helping all the people that desperately need your services here, and even around the world! Oh, yeah, don't forget to mention keeping the U.S. truly the "Land of the Free!"
