Why I come to work every day

I’ve worked at reproductive health clinics for decades, and the protesters have done a lot to make my life difficult over the years. They invaded my clinic. They chained themselves to exam tables. They injured staff. They harassed my children. And every Mother’s Day, they vandalized my home.

So why am I still here? It’s pretty simple -- if I don’t come to work, women don’t have the care they want and need.

I am Emily X.

I am Planned Parenthood.

By the way, if you're new to this blog, check out the back story here.

Emily,
Thank you SO much for being such a strong advocate for women in every community and for bringing light upon so many of the struggles that go un-noticed. I have loved reading your blog and I can't wait to follow your journey. Go Emily X!!!

I have had similar experiences, as an advocate for battered women. I always say that if I am getting that kind of reaction, I am probably doing the right thing. There are those of us who chart our own course, and do what is best for humanity, and others that, well, just kind of go along for the ride. They are not bad people; they've been taught that what they are doing is righteous-they are taught not to think for themselves. They therefore don't seem to realize what poor examples they are, teaching our children about perpetuating hate, rather than inspiring people to love, care for others, and open up thier souls, as thier Christ would have done. You are the latter type of person-the example of respectful care, ironically much more alligned with the righteous path than those protesters who claim it.

I am so grateful to all of you brave reproductive health workers. When I was a frightened teen facing an accidental pregnancy it was the safe and confidential environment at the local clinic which helped me understand that I had the choice to use the "morning after pill". I am so glad that I was saved the traumatic choice between abortion, adoption or teen motherhood. Ten years later I am finishing college and preparing to marry and have a family. Without a P.P. clinic this would not be my life. Keep up the great work Planned Parenthood.

thank you a million times over. If i could meet you in person i would give you a BIG HUG for all the women you are helping everyday. don't these losers have jobs??? how do they have all this spare time to harrass you and your staff and the patients trying to get safe, affordable care! After seeing a bunch of women burdened with many children on the train following a pro life rally, i was sickened that they brought their small kids out in the rain ( it was even during school hours) and made them hold awful signs. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and i did not want them to think I was with them. at this time i thought of a shirt I would get made " I am pro-choice and so is my baby".
